Between my subject and myself there exists
an object, a wall, that tends to be the
conscious distraction that separates us
both physically and emotionally. When that
wall (the camera) is not blocking the subject,
there becomes a naturalness, a realness.
It is then, that I want my camera to capture
the moment.
So
the question becomes,
"How can I bring my subject to this
relaxed, natural state even when the camera
is pointed toward them?"
That question is an ongoing thought that
streams through my mind as I'm shooting.
I look for the moment when I feel the
person is real free from the incumberance
of the camera's existence.
I
believe that all great photographs capture
this natural moment, when that barrier of the
camera has melted away and the subject is
alone,without walls.
