I
started my photographic journey while in high school,
right after I moved to theUnited States from Japan. One
evening, while I was driving in the South Bay area of
Los Angeles, there were very heavy dense fog - so heavy
that I couldn't see anything. I'd never experienced anything
like it. I felt like I was in dream or heaven. It was
beautiful - all the ugliness of the day was erased. The
only visible thing was a street light, it was glowing
and it emitted that glow onto the street...I got out of
my car, and started shooting with my first camera, a Nikon
F (a gift from my brother). I photographed with a time
exposure, something I'd just learned in my high school
photo class. I anxiously took the exposed black and white
film to school to process it in the high school dark room.
The image appeared slowly in the developer, it was my
first magical moment and it was exhilarating! This excitement
never went way and ended up being my life's work.
After graduating from high school, I proceeded to Art
Center College of Design,in Pasadena CA. The Art Center
College taught me basic knowledge of professional photography
and the photography business. After graduating from Art
Center I decided to move to New York to be where the action
was. As stimulating and inspiring as New York was, the
weather was challenging and two years later I came back
to Hollywood.
In 1989, I designed and built a unique daylight studio
in Hollywood. At this time most of my clients were from
Japan. I had opportunity to work with many celebrities, famous
sportsman, many beautiful models and I produced hundreds
of advertising campaigns and fashion catalogues. After
years of activity in Hollywood area, I decided to relocate
to the South Bay, where my career, on that foggy day,
had all begun.
With my studio now open, I am hoping that the knowledge
and experience I garnered in Hollywood will be the asset
that companies in the South bay area, especially Nikkei
Corporations, will appreciate. The South Bay is my home.I'm
excited and comfortable to be back here and I'm ready
to create some more magical moments.
